The word PEZ comes from the German word for Peppermint : PFEFFERMINZ.
Invented by anti-smoking advocate Eduard Hass III, Pez were originally marketed as mints to help smokers kick the habit. The candy's slogan in the 1920s was "Smoking prohibited, PEZing allowed".
